Young Leader Training
Woodcraft Folk has run many weekends of training for leaders of various ages. Although the activities we use have developed a bit as we've tried to make these weekends as accessible as possible to younger leaders (eg Venturers), our approach is that everyone can participate in the same course, whatever their age, if they're new to leadership.
Supporting the transition from participant to young leader
Woodcraft Folk good practice: supporting young people to make the transition from participant to volunteer leader
We've gathered together some ideas on how experienced volunteers can support young people to make the transition from being a participant in a group to a volunteer with leadership responsibilities. You can download the same information from the Word document below. This certainly isn't an exhaustive list, so if you have other good ideas please comment below or let us know!

Young Leaders
As Venturers, DFs and young Kinsfolk you may be interested in volunteering with Woodcraft Folk. We need and welcome your contribution - you are the future of Woodcraft Folk.
You might be unsure of how to go about volunteering or you might already volunteer as a leader or helper. You may even want to find out how to take on a leadership role.
TFLON2 - Training For Leaders Old & New 2
A free weekend of training for new and experienced leaders alike at Consall Scout camp in Stoke-on-Trent.
The weekend will give participants an exciting opportunity to take part in a variety of sessions aimed at promoting positive leadership. These sessions will be an ideal opportunity for participants to discuss ideas around leadership, learn new leadership skills, ideas and techniques and also for participants to learn more about supporting others into leadership roles.
Case study: Being a Young Trainer and running Leading for the Future activities
Alice’s journey through Woodcraft Folk and into youth work is a brilliant example of youth leadership and the opportunities Woodcraft Folk gives: having grown up in the Folk, Alice came back as an Elfin and Pioneer leader, then trained as a Young Trainer to use her facilitation skills more widely around Woodcraft. Now she’s doing a youth work MA and running Woodcraft’s Leading for the Future programme with a group of young carers.
Training for Leaders Old and New
Following the great success of recent training for young leaders we are pleased to invite you to a new kind of training event, one with both training for young leaders and training which enables established members to support young leaders.
