Our Times: campaign activities for Venturers
Our Times is the new campaign from young people around Woodcraft Folk, who want to give other young people a platform to be heard on social and political issues including war. The aim is to enable young people to educate each other on the issues they care about, and enable wider society to hear and respect young people's views.
We've put together a range of activities to get your Venturer group thinking about society and what they care about most in it. Download the PDF below.
International Negotiations and unfair resource distribution
Time taken: 30 minutes to play and at least 15 minutes for reflection.
Equipment: About 80 sweets (small, individually wrapped, variety to suit all tastes)
This game is designed to simulate international negotiations. It is based on "Prisoners Dilema" type experiments from economics.

Group night activity ideas 'The United Nations Convention - Rights of the Child'
As part of Universal Children's day held on the 20th November our groups in Scotland ran a programme on the UNCRC (The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child). They've shared their group night activity ideas below which you can run to educate and inform your young people on their rights.
What is the UNCRC?
Folk Symbol session
This session was run with an Elfin group as part of a term's work on 'Community' to explore the theme of 'Our Woodcraft Commiunity'. We discussed the meaning behind the Woodcraft logo, and then used a selection of postcards to explore our understanding of Woodcraft Folk's values.
Linking us together - Hands In! 2014
Hands In! 2014! is about sharing your stories and games with other Woodcraft Folk groups. We've posted the start of a story to several Woodcraft Folk groups, who are each the first in a chain of 4 or 5 groups. We hope each group in the chain will write part of the story and send it on to the next group.
The Food Chain Game
by Mike Rossetti.
The aim of this game is for children to learn about basic ecology in a fun and creative way. The Food Chain Game stimulates both creative and rational faculties by incorporating elements of both art and science.
Campaign topics
Woodcraft Folk is supporting young people across the organisation to choose and campaign on a topic of their choice. Help your Woodcraft group explore what issues are important to them with this group night activity plan, including a reminder of Woodcraft's last youth-led campaign, Right to Refuge, and ways of brainstorming what the next campaign might focus on. You can download the plan below.
